Ozone concentrations are much lower than expected today, hovering near the Code Green/Yellow threshold. Particle pollution concentrations are actually higher than ozone, currently in the lower Code Yellow range. With high pressure remaining in place and no change of air mass expected, particle pollution will remain Moderate through midweek. The outlook for ozone is much improved versus yesterday’s forecast cycle. Models have come into better agreement with the position of the surface high and therefore the low-level flow pattern across the broader region. With the high drifting to the NW of the Triad, low-level flow will be sourced from the Ohio Valley through midweek and ozone concentrations are quite low there currently. Additionally, increasing moisture levels will help inhibit ozone production despite sunny skies and high temperatures pushing 100 degrees. Expect ozone to rebound to the mid Code Yellow range tomorrow and then remain Moderate through Wednesday. (Perrotte)
